Why VOCA extended born?


The concrete aim of this project is “to train mentors (who are also disabled) and consequently support (home based) employability of (mentee) disabled people by means of mentoring”. Thus both mentor and mentee will be included in the labour market:

In a narrower scale, a major problem for disabled people is to get into or maintain a connection to the labour market. In recent times, as in VOCA Europe, focus had been on preparing the disabled person for getting a job through assessment and training of the individual. In VOCA Europe 2, focus was put on the process of getting and keeping a job, and one of the project outcomes was the development and testing of a model for the training of Mentors who can assist both companies in employing a disabled individual and disabled people.



Thus, assisting both parties in the process following the employment for increasing the chance of the employment is becoming a success. In this project, VOCA extended, mentors will be offered training in more languages and they will also be trained in guiding disabled people in how to work from home. This will fill the big gap between VET sources offered to disabled people to train them for labour market, and getting them actually employed and use these efforts to find an opportunity for employement.

In our former project IT&E (www.pedva.net), there are courses offered for freelance employment but mentoring philosophy is missing, which actually helps a lot in getting disabled people in the labour market. This is because the fact that, practical freelance working of disabled people, most of the times needing additional tutoring after/during having received their vocational training. Therefore, mentoring is a must and complementary activity in this way of creating real powerful disabled workforce serving to the industry. We also observed this lack in our freelance employment portal (www.svalub.com) where people are working in freelance since 1999.
